Humility: Priceless

I was given this little card almost 40 years ago and have treasured it ever since. I’ve read it many, many times and have taken something of value from it every single time. Please feel free to read slowly and as many times as it takes to integrate and truly feel the essence.

Now I know the words may feel a little archaic. They do to me sometimes. However, isn’t this what we all want from our lives? “perpetual quietness of heart:? “to have no trouble”? “to be at rest when nobody praises me”?

What greater gifts might there be from our time on this planet, with these people (or other people), in this lifetime?

Imagine what could be achieved and accomplished when we go about our lives with such a wonderful “deep sea of calmness.” The room we’d have within ourselves for productivity and movement and exploration and discovery!

I’ve been taught several ways of looking at humility and another way of perceiving it is replacing it with the word, “teachable.”

It may appear on the outside that this is not in alignment with the words from the card, however, I would offer this:

Are those who seem to (or at least try to appear as though they do) know it all, people that you’d equate with “peace” or “quietness of heart”?

Are those who you don’t feel you can get through to in order to teach, or instruct, or assist, those who are experiencing “calmness”?

I’m guessing probably not.

Those who are open, interested, discovering and learning are, at least from what I’ve experienced in this lifetime, the ones with humility. Why?

Because they’re teachable.

I heard a long time ago, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Lead with caring, lead with listening, lead with learning about this wonderful life you’ve been given.

You’ll find your humility and you’ll find your peace.
